Himuragumi is currently down due to a power outage at Lj! So, what are you doing during your LJ withdrawl?
Personally, I'm chainsmoking and praying to Frank the Goat for relief!

I access the forums/RPG/etc at the office, so when I am unable to access any of these, I occupy my time actually doing work (heh-heh).
But now that the tsunami waves have receded - at least in the world regions under my responsibility - I do get somewhat bored having to lead with stories with political angles again...
What to do, what to do?

You have to work on a Saturday? Yikes. I think if I was unable to get LJ at my office, I would probably never come to work.

Yes. I work six days a week. Thursdays off. That ensures that there is a newspaper edition on all days except Friday. I do miss having two days off a week, though...

Yikes. That sounds harsh! Well, hopefully they pay you well, at the very least. Or, you love your job. Chuckle.

Hope you don't mind this going off-topic ... if you do, just tell me and I shall cease and desist!
Anyway...
No, the pay is actually quite lousy. My significant other and I get paid about half what we were getting in Papua New Guinea (our first job overseas).
We took a pay cut just so that we could work in the Middle East (we both hail from Southeast Asia, so we have SE Asia experience ... PNG gave us South Pacific experience) ... so here we are.
As for loving my job ... well, she loves the job more than I do. For me, it mostly a means to an end.

No. I declare that this thread can go thoroughly off-topic!!! Chuckle. It's the "we're all bored and in withdrawl and just gabbing" thread. Wow! Papua New Guinea? Southeast Asia? The Middle East? Sounds like you and the Significant Other are quite the jet-setters. I've never been out of the States, personally, ah...but I dream, I dream... Do you experience a lot of Culture Shock? Or are you used to it now? Well, as long as you don't -hate- your job, I guess.

Not quite. There is a term amongst journalists ... "parachute journalism" ... which some consider as "cheap".
"Parachute journalists" are the glamorous ones who "parachute" into a hotspot, report, and "parachute" out of danger. They do not stay long enough to learn anything about the people or the country they are reporting about.
To learn and experience, we must stay longer. Anyhow, Parachute journalism has its merits ... but we are disdainful of those who claim to know a lot when they know next to nothing.
My significant other and I started out in SE Asia ... three years in a newspaper and the national news agency. Culture shock factor: zero (home country, after all).
Then we left the country and went to PNG. Spent three years there. Culture shock factor: 6/10 (primitive people/poverty everywhere/different concept of morality/etc).
Then we came to the Middle East. We are still here, and it has been nearly three years. Culture shock factor: 4/10 (lack of professionalism/more South Asians than Arabs/the extreme summer heat and winter chill/etc).
We are looking at either Southern Africa (not necessarily South Africa) or South America next.

I'm trying to be good and stay over at the new place and paint. So much to do, and I'm moving in Thursday.
Of course... I had to stop by here... to pick up something. Yeah. Not to check on lj. Nope, not at all.

Let's see...What did I do today?
Woke up...checked the lj site
Went back to sleep, woke up again, checked the lj site...
Had lunch, checked the lj site
Watched "Fellowship of the Ring", checked the lj site...
I'm sensing a definite pattern here...
Am I addicted?
Do I need a twelve-step program? Maybe...
Somebody help me!!!

Sadly, there is no 12-step program for rpg's - or anime - or manga - or doujinshi - or plushies - or any of the many anime related addictions we all possess.....::sigh::
I didn't know LJ was down until just before I went to bed since one of my other addictions: all things Sci-Fi, led me to watch the new Battlestar Galatica last night. (Yeah, I liked it. I really love James Edward Olmos and the rest of the cast seems pretty good - except for Dr. Brashir. I thought I was rid of that scene chewing egoist when Deep Space Nine ended!)
Today? Hey, it's January and under 20 degrees here, so time to make knit some warm goodies!
Back later for more chat! (So glad to see our Players enjoying the forum!)

Weeell. At present I am reading summaries of every single episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Man, that show's been around the block. lol. Too many seasons! This is my second day of reading. Started on Friday. ::shakes fists at lack of eljay powerage::
And what's really sad about my LJ addiction, is that I wrote this really funny mock-up of a famous Robert Frost poem today, and went to lj to post it, all excited at my wittiness, only to be reminded that it was down. I had forgotten. XD Selective memory, anyone? ::grins::
But I spent most of the afternoon reading poetry (Robert Frost) aloud to my parents at the dining room table as we drank tea. From a dreidle teapot. Hohoho. I swear, I discovered some Frost poems that were...amazing.
And one that almost made me cry. :)

I've never really done forums before, so pardon my ignorance. Is there some all-consuming fantastical divine purpose for a calendar? How is it used?

I think it just comes with the forum. I am not sure if we will ever use it. On the other hand, who knows...
You know, there is an LJ feature which we don't really use which might potentially be useful to get in the habit of using for the himuragumi group....memories. "Important" posts, or posts which are useful to some plot might be able to be saved under particular headings so that people can go back and see what happened. I might try to figure this out a bit when LJ is back up....
