It just seems appropriate for the first Historical thread to be about Ikedaya. For Ishin Shishi and Shinsengumi alike it was such an important event!
I guess I'll start by wondering why it is that Watsuki did not place Kenshin at Ikedaya? Maybe he is such a history and Shinsengumi buff himself that he did not want to place a non-historical character there, ne?
It certainly had a large impact on Kenshin, since it ultimately sent him out to Otsu with Tomoe (once the Ishin Shishi troops lost the fighting that followed Ikedaya).
Perhaps, with Kenshin's Hiten Mitsurugi style being so fitted to the one against many, he did not want to dilute the historical facts by having him fight there - how would he explain Kenshin's loss?
In any event, Ikedaya seems to be a major event in any Meiji Era drama or anime!

(I just remembered that these forums exist, and am making up for lost time.)
I think it would be a good idea to get the Bakumatsu era characters together and decide exactly what happened. RK doesn't cover some things, and there are differing historical accounts, as well as the PMK version.
